Companies Can Give Back by Becoming Benefit Corporations

Kickstarter recently announced that is has joined as small (but growing) a growing number of companies that have elected to become a  Benefit Corporation.

These new corporations are required to consider the impact of their decisions not only on shareholders but also on workers, community, and the environment; and are required to make available to the public an annual benefit report that assesses their overall social and environmental performance against a third party standard. While only about .01% of all U.S. businesses have elected to become Benefit Corporations, more companies are expected to do so in the near future.
