National Non-Profit Day, celebrated each year on August 17, was created in 2017 to recognize not-for-profit organizations that serve their local communities. In honor of this national holiday, GYF wanted to take the time to reflect on the valuable role nonprofits play in our community. Since our firm’s founding in 1990, serving not-for-profit organizations has been a primary focus for Grossman Yanak & Ford LLP (GYF). We strongly believe in helping those who help others and proudly celebrate all the nonprofits dedicated to serving and improving our community.
Many GYF professionals have dedicated significant portions of their careers to serving not-for-profit organizations. We utilize our expertise to provide assurance, tax and consulting services to large and small nonprofits of various types, enabling the organizations to concentrate on fulfilling their missions. Our client base includes more than 100 educational institutions, health and human services agencies, faith-based organizations, professional and membership associations, foundations and various other not-for-profit organizations throughout the region.
Not only does GYF provide quality professional services to our nonprofit clients, but we also support many other organizations through financial contributions and event sponsorships and encourage our personnel to volunteer their time, share their accounting expertise and develop their leadership skills through involvement in nonprofits. This experience enables them to appreciate the perspectives of the organizations’ boards and management teams and to bring that understanding to their work in serving our not-for-profit clients.

The GYF team includes many graduates of the Leadership Pittsburgh and LDI programs, and our professionals serve as consultants for and/or sit on the boards of directors for a variety of organizations. Many individuals also hold leadership roles in their churches, volunteer at their children’s schools, coach for youth sports groups and contribute to nonprofit organizations in numerous other ways.
Additionally, our firm coordinates several team-building outings each year to allow our staff to work together outside the office while supporting the mission of a local nonprofit. In recent years, we have had groups volunteer their time at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Global Links, The Education Partnership, and Dress for Success Pittsburgh. GYF has also created an annual philanthropic match program to further motivate employees to donate individually to causes and organizations they are passionate about.
